Four Goals To Simplify Life

I try to utilize the technique of making small goals to tackle the larger goals. Having a broad and somewhat generic goal like “simplify our life” made me feel a little overwhelmed. There are so many things that we would like accomplish and so many things that we would like to do better. Finding the perfect starting point was going to be impossible.

I wrote down every task that we want to accomplish and every area of our lives that we want to improve. I figured our that our family’s pursuit to simplify our lives can be organized into four goals:

Natural Living

Simplifying by eliminating toxins, chemicals, waste and worry. There’s something to be said for the days when things were simpler. The days when we didn’t learn each week that a created chemical actually causes cancer. The days when food wasn’t recalled every time you turn around. Taking things back to simple, preferably natural when possible, is what we’re striving for.

Growing Love

If food is love then I want to grow as much as possible. Our goal is to utilize small space container gardening to grow while we are still living in an apartment. While we plan and save for our future homestead, we want to learn as much as we can about growing our own food.

Humble Home

The larger goal is to purchase a home with enough space for a garden and various animals. Until then, my goal is to maintain an organized, clutter-free and healthy home. In preparation for our future garden, we will make a point to continue to cook from scratch recipes to use fresh ingredients to nourish the only bodies we will ever get.

Self Care

Using natural options, changing eating habits and fostering a better home environment are all contributing pieces to self care. Also important, in my opinion, is self-improvement, encouragement and relationship building.

If the last couple of years has taught me anything, it is that life is short. I am grateful that Husband and I are on the same page with how we want to pursue life. We want to create great memories together, learn new things and raise our little one to appreciate the simplicity life has to offer if you are willing to pursue it.

I’m Sharing My Dream With The World!

I want to be more conscious of how my family and I are moving through life and I want to simplify it.
E. Jean Homestead

I have decided that I am overcoming my fear to share my dream with others. I’m sharing my dream with the world! If you missed my introductory post you can catch up here.

Have you ever had a crazy nagging feeling about an idea? That has been my experience. Like a deep, passionate urge that refuses to leave me. Regardless of how many times I try to stomp it down or throw it out of my mind, it always comes back.

I am not sure where the initial idea came from. The desire for it manifests from wanting a lifestyle change. I want to be more conscious of how my family and I are moving through life and I want to simplify it. Over time, with a little help from regular daydreaming, the idea has become a full blown dream. I was fearful of sharing my dream with my husband. To my surprise, he agreed with me and is on board with the idea.

Sharing my dream – E. Jean Homestead

So what is it? Well, I am an aspiring homesteader.

My husband and I have set a goal for ourselves to simplify and live the “homestead lifestyle”. So what does that mean? A simple explanation is that we would like to own a house with enough land to be more self-sufficient.

In future posts I will get into more detail about what homesteading means to us, what our plans are to get out of our apartment and into a forever home, as well as general updates on how we are doing with our goals.

OVERCOMING FEAR TO SHARE MY DREAMS

I am overcoming fear. I am overcoming fear of judgement and opinions. This is not hard to believe, but I don’t think that I have ever been accused of being a shy person. Outspoken…yes. Brutally honest…maybe a time or two. Not shy though. I have certainly been known to share my thoughts and opinions when the opportunity arises.

Despite my lack of shyness, the thought of sharing my dream with people outside of my inner circle scared me. If I am being honest, it still does, more than a little. I see my dreams as being a part of me. A full backstage pass to the show that is Cami.

Let’s be clear. I am not talking about ideas. I’m speaking strictly about dreams. Defined in the dictionary as a strongly desired goal or purpose. The thought of people knowing how much time, research and energy that I have invested so far sends my stomach to the nearest (hopefully clean) spot on the the floor.

So what changed? Why share? Why now?

I slept. No seriously. I went to bed one night, woke up the next morning and could not get the idea out of my head. The idea that I am not alone. There are other people in the world that dream big. Undoubtedly, there are people that share the exact same dream as I have. I have a strong feeling that someone needs to know that overcoming fear is possible and they can do, be or have anything that they want.

Too often when we feel that the family or friends closest to us don’t understand, we feel like we are alone. I have had that experience many times before. Luckily technology, specifically the internet, has opened the door to make connections with those who have similar interests as yours.

My motivating factors include the desire to encourage others and I hope to utilize the internet along with this new endeavor to make connections with new, interesting people. Overcoming fear of different, new and scary. I plan to jump in and share my dream with the world. If you are interested, I invite you to follow our journey.

What is your motivation when overcoming fear to step outside your comfort zone?
