Planning For A Future Farm

Farm Business Plan - E. Jean Homestead

Took a break from planning for a future farm and writing our business plan to write about writing a business plan…

I have previously mentioned our family’s desire to live a sustainable lifestyle, where we live on our land and grow as much of our own food as possible. Recently, Husband and I have decided that we do not want good clean food for just our family. We also want to help other families in our community to have good clean food for themselves. As a result, the homestead business plan has officially been started. We are officially planning for a future farm. In fact, much of the business plan is already finished.

Is a USDA Rural Loan The Right Option?

Rural Loan - E. Jean Homestead

When we started considering our options for moving out of our current apartment and on to land to pursue our homestead dreams, we thought that we only had two options. We thought that our options were to buy with a traditional mortgage loan or buy with cash. It would take us quite a while to save a down payment for a traditional loan. Certainly, it would take us a short lifetime to save to pay in cash. The USDA Rural loan may be the option we are looking for.

Four Goals to Simplify Life

Simplify Life - E. Jean Homestead

I try to utilize the technique of making small goals to tackle the larger goals. Having a broad and somewhat generic goal like “simplify our life” made me feel a little overwhelmed. I’m sharing my dream with the world!

I want to be more conscious of how my family and I are moving through life and I want to simplify it.

Regardless of how many times I try to stomp it down or throw it out of my mind, it always comes back. I am not sure where the initial idea came from. The desire for it manifests from wanting a lifestyle change. I want to be more conscious of how my family and I are moving through life and I want to simplify it. Over time, with a little help from regular daydreaming, the idea has become a full blown dream. I was fearful of sharing my dream with my husband. To my surprise, he agreed with me and is on board with the idea.

Overcoming Fear to Share my Dreams

Overcoming Fear - E. Jean Homestead

I am overcoming fear. I am overcoming fear of judgement and opinions. This is not hard to believe, but I don’t think that I have ever been accused of being a shy person. Outspoken…yes. Brutally honest…maybe a time or two. Not shy though. I have certainly been known to share my thoughts and opinions when the opportunity arises. Despite my lack of shyness, the thought of sharing my dream with people outside of my inner circle scared me. If I am being honest, it still does, more than a little. I see my dreams as being a part of me. A full backstage pass to the show that is Cami. Let’s be clear. I am not talking about ideas. I’m speaking strictly about dreams. Defined in the dictionary as a strongly desired goal or purpose. The thought of people knowing how much time, research and energy that I have invested so far sends my stomach to the nearest (hopefully clean) spot on the the floor. So what changed? Why share? Why now?
