Classic Cornbread

Ingredients

1 1/3 Cup All-purpose flour

1 Cup Cornmeal

6 Tablespoons Sugar*

1/2 Teaspoons Kosher Salt

2 Eggs, room temperature

2/3 Cup Milk

4 Tablespoons Oil*

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients thoroughly.

  3. Add wet ingredients and stir until combined. Aim for a cake batter consistency. You may need to add more milk.

  4. Pour into a well-greased 9x9 pan or our personal favorite, a 10-inch cast iron skillet.

  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Recipe Notes

  • This recipe is an alternative to the blue box cornbread mix that you find in stores. It is a sweet cornbread mix. I have made this recipe with 1 - 2 less tablespoons of sugar with still delicious results.

  • Use a neutral flavored oil like avocado oil or vegetable oil. I have also used melted butter or ghee.
